Welcome Back, Fellow Parent
I went down a rabbit hole recently and had to share with the community.
Do you ever wonder where our lost luggage goes?
The journey is more fascinating than you may think.

Every year, millions of bags crisscross the skies on flights all over the country. When a bag goes missing, airlines go to great lenghts to reunite bags with their rightful owners. They’ll do they’re best going down the rabbit hole of tracking tags, claims, and contacting travelers.
Thanks to technology, only about 0.03% of checked bags become “orphaned” after an extensive three month search.
So what happens next?
Instead of letting those items gather dust, many airlines choose to sell them to businesses like Unclaimed Baggage, ensuring they’re put to good use. They’re actually the only store contracted to do this in the United States and have been around since 1970.
Before items hit the shelves, they’re carefully inspected, cleaned, and sorted.
Only about one-third of all unclaimed items received are deemed suitable for sale. The rest are either donated to charity or responsibly recycled, ensuring nothing goes to waste and extending the life of these lost treasures.
The Findings
Okay full disclosure. I was originally trying to figure out how to buy lost luggage so I could test it as a potential reselling side-hustle. Instead, I stumbled on a great way to save money.
I’ll call it a win.
The store is full of all sorts of items - upwards of 80% off! It’s insane, and pretty fun to see what’s in stock.
When you’re browsing, focus on high-value items that offer the most significant savings.
Electronics and designer clothing are standout categories where you can snag deals that are hard to beat. I noticed all sorts of top-tier brands including a full range of Apple products and Bose headphones.
Unclaimed Baggage will also provide a condition score, which is super helpful when searching with filters. There are a TON of items that are considered “new with tags.”
There are also designer clothing and handbags, including a $300 Gucci Mickey Mouse shirt (56% off retail price 🤯), if that’s your sort of thing.

As of the date of this writing, they also offer free shipping for orders over $75.
Happy shopping and if you end up buying anything interesting please let me know!
